Welsh Art in the News

The Aberystwyth based Cambrian News has indicated that it will be running a piece about the Becker watercolours (featured in the New Stock). A good many of these depict the town in its pre-Victorian form and consequently they will be of considerable interest to readers locally, as well as those more generally interested in Welsh history. No date has been confirmed but the article is likely to feature the Aberystwyth edition which appears on the 10 May.

The Collectors number of Country Life comes out on 7 June. This will include an article focussing on three collectors of historical portraiture - two of whom are Welsh. One interview is conducted with the curator of the Tredegar House collection. As you may well know, Tredegar House is the ancestral seat of the Morgan family, near Newport. It has been in the care of Newport borough council for some years and they have pursued a commendable policy of collecting many of the Morgan portraits (as well as other house contents) which were dispersed when the family sold up.

I was also interviewed for this article and was photographed at home with my portrait of the blind harpist John Parry, painted by his son William Parry A.R.A. (1743-1791). As mentioned on the last News page I am in the process of finishing a book on this important Welsh artist and I hope that the Country Life article will prove useful in bringing Parry’s name to a wider audience prior to publication
